Welcome to Holy Comforter!
26th Sunday In Ordinary Time
September 27, 2026
Entrance Antiphon, Dn 3:31, 29, 30, 43, 42:
All that you have done to us, O Lord, you have done with true judgment, for we have sinned against you and not obeyed your commandments. But give glory to your name and deal with us according to the bounty of your mercy.
Welcome to all parishioners and visitors of Holy Comforter!
September is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. The prophecy of St. Simeon: “A sword shall pierce your soul also” was fulfilled at the crucifixion of Christ and remains powerful for us today. As we contemplate our Lady suffering at the foot of the cross of Christ, let us unite our own sufferings to her Immaculate Heart.
Pulpit Announcements
Unite In Prayer
Following Bishop Knestout’s July 6 Pastoral Letter to all faithful Catholics in the Richmond Diocese to form their consciences through prayer, regarding the upcoming referendum amending the state constitution, we will continue to pray the Rosary before the 5:00pm Saturday, 8:30am Sunday, and 2:00pm Sunday Masses. For the 11:00am Sunday Mass we will pray the Rosary immediately after the Mass. Please join us. If you cannot join us please we ask that you pray our bishops’ Prayer for Protection available on the credenza.
Knights of Columbus
The men of Holy Comforter are urged to join the Knights of Columbus as they continue their tradition of over 140 years of service to God, family, and country. Knights pursue holiness by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, and protecting the widow and orphan. Contact Nick Pierson, gk3670@vakofc.org, to learn more.
Novena for Vocations
Please join the Diocese of Richmond in Praying the “Novena for Vocations to the Priesthood” until September 27. In our local Church, we are facing a challenging reality – an abundant harvest and a need for more laborers. On behalf of Bishop Knestout, the Office of Vocations asks the faithful to join in this diocesan prayer for priestly vocations.

Please make sure your cell phone is silenced, so we can pray the mass with our minds and hearts attuned to the sacred mysteries.

Adult Formation - Treasures of the Tradition
Holy Comforter's Adult Formation program offers two reading groups this fall: Dante's Purgatorio (a slow, thoughtful trip up the seven-story mountain!). Theologically and psychologically richer than Inferno, this middle section is many readers' favorite part of the Divine Comedy; AND Milton's Paradise Lost (another epic treatment of Christian themes... in some of the grandest English verse ever written!). We'll take it very slowly with much discussion to make it accessible to all. CLICK ON LINK below for details on website.
Encyclical Reading Group
Parishioner Beth Frazier is forming a Holy Comforter reading group to discuss the recent encyclical Magnifica Humanitas. If Interested, please contact Beth at eafrazier7@gmail.com or 757-675-9668.
